Boxing
Boxing is a combat sport between two athletes conducted under special rules, based on punching and defense with gloves. Boxing is widely practiced worldwide both as an Olympic and professional sport. Athletes are mainly distinguished by their punching techniques, speed, agility, and tactics.
Main features:
• Opponents try to score points with punches or win by knockout
• Only strikes above the waist are allowed
• Each match can consist of 3 rounds (3 minutes each) or longer formats
• Boxers fight wearing gloves, helmets (in amateur boxing), and other protective gear
• Judges evaluate the fight based on a points system and rule violations
Ways to win:
• Knockout (KO) – when the opponent fails to rise within 10 seconds after a strike
• Technical knockout (TKO) – when the referee or doctor stops the fight
• Victory by points – decided by at least 3 judges' decision
• Opponent’s withdrawal or disqualification
Types of boxing:
• Amateur boxing – designed for Olympic and international competitions
• Professional boxing – longer and commercially oriented fights
• Women’s boxing – a rapidly growing official competition worldwide
