Freestyle wrestling
It is a wrestling style included in the Olympic Games and is held among both men and women. In this style, wrestlers can apply techniques to the opponent’s upper body as well as the leg area. Freestyle wrestling requires speed, agility, and tactical intelligence.
Main features:
• Touching, attacking, and applying techniques to the opponent’s legs are allowed
• Each match usually lasts 6 minutes, divided into 2 periods (3+3 minutes)
• Wrestling takes place on a tatami (mat)
• Wrestlers use techniques such as throws, holds, and takedowns
• Victory is achieved through both technical skill and physical strength
Ways to win:
• Touche – fully pinning the opponent’s shoulders to the mat
• Victory by point difference – technical superiority over the opponent
• Referee decision – awarded to the more active and dominant wrestler in case of a tie
• Technical victory or opponent’s forfeit
