Greco-Roman wrestling
It is a classical wrestling style included in the Olympic program. This style is held only among men, and the wrestler is allowed to apply techniques only to the opponent’s upper body above the waist. Attacking with the legs or grabbing the opponent’s legs is strictly prohibited.
Main features:
• Techniques are applied only to the upper body of the opponent
• Attacking with or grabbing the legs is forbidden
• Matches usually last 6 minutes in 2 periods (3+3 minutes)
• Wrestlers mainly use techniques of holding with arms, spinning, back throws, and throws
• Physical strength, technical accuracy, and endurance are essential
Ways to win:
• Touche – fully pinning the opponent’s shoulders to the mat
• Victory by point difference – based on technical superiority
• Referee decision – based on technical superiority if points are tied
• Technical touche or forfeit – opponent’s inability to continue the fight
