Sambo
It is a combat and sport discipline created in the USSR and currently recognized internationally. SAMBO is famous both as a self-defense skill and as a competitive sport. This style combines elements of wrestling, judo, and other martial arts.
Main features:
• Throws, holds, painful and ground techniques are applied against the opponent
• Touching the opponent’s legs and interfering with feet is allowed during techniques
• Strikes are only applied in combat sambo (prohibited in sport sambo)
• Matches usually consist of 2 rounds lasting 5 minutes each
• SAMBO fights are conducted with special uniforms – sambovka (red/blue jacket), shorts, and shoes
Types of SAMBO:
• Sport Sambo – competition-oriented, conducted without strikes
• Combat Sambo – designed for military personnel and special forces, includes strikes
Ways to win:
• Touche – fully pinning the opponent’s shoulder to the mat
• Victory by point difference – achieving technical superiority
• Opponent’s inability to continue the fight or referee decision
